Data loss has become a huge issue in both the personal and business atmospheres over the past few years. It is an issue that affects all of us, but is sometimes left unprotected. Threats can come from anywhere. Malicious software can enter your computer and delete or copy valuable information. Hardware can malfunction within your own system. Even such a simple thing as user error can lead to loss of data—either by accident or through a malicious attack in an unprotected system.

Although it is inevitably impossible to protect a system fully, there are a few preventive measures that can be taken in order to better protect a system from data loss. The first step is to make sure that the system is fully updated and has the latest anti-virus and spyware definitions. This helps prevent malicious code from entering the computer. The next step is to install a reliable firewall. The more protection there is between your system and the outside world, the better. The next step is to take good care of your system. It is impossible to know for sure when hardware is going to fail, but the better the system is cared for, the better the chances. The final step in preventing data loss is to make frequent backups. This step is the most important, as it is unlikely that all backups will fail at once.

There are many ways in which to backup a system. However, the one that I am going to share with you is both free and easy to use. The program, SyncBack is a free program that can be used to automatically backup data to another drive or even a private FTP server. Using this software you can schedule automatic backups as often as you want. If you want detailed instructions about how to set this program up, please visit here.
